My outlook on life changed significantly around 2008 with the coming of the 'global economic crisis' and banking crash, when I became much more aware of topics such as fractional reserve banking, exponential growth and limits, peak oil and climate change. I won't use this page to talk too much about this (generally not too good for my mood!) but I found these books and videos extremely enlightening such that I now have rather strong skepticism of pretty much all that our mainstream politicians, economists and bankers say about the future! I find it extremely hard to reconcile some my interests, especially as a classic VW enthusiast and general petrol head and motorsports fan, with the implications of continued burning of fossil fuels. Once we have made the changes to our garden to allow us to grow more fruit and veg then I hope to become involved with local groups such as Transition to help with initiatives to prepare us for the future.
